    SCOM IRC Channel

One of the bigger projects I’m working on is the deployment of System Center Operations Manager 2007. We’ve been using MOM 2005 for quite some time, and I’m learning every day just how big the leap from 2005 to 2007 is. I’ll probably be posting an occasional note on the struggle, so expect some additional SCOM content (some related to powershell, some not).

JPavleck has setup an IRC channel on Freenode dedicated to SCOM discussions. It’s still pretty new (so it’s quiet), so stop by if you have any interest in SCOM. I get some of my best ideas from peer discussions in IRC – so I look forward to this channel taking off. If you already have an IRC client, Just go to #SCOM on FreeNode. Otherwise, you can use a web based portal at http://pavleck.net/chat/.

While you are there, check out #Powershell on Freenode as well. It’s very lively at times (That’s a good thing!).

    Micro-Rant: SCOM's Criteria Expression Syntax

In SCOM (System Center Operations Manager 2007) related powershell cmdlets, there is a parameter to specify a search criteria. My rant involves the fact that the syntax for it doesn’t match Powershell’s comparison operators at all :(

I’m sure there are very good reasons (the underlying SDK was probably designed long before powershell support was decided on), but it’s still frustrating to learn a different syntax for each tool (such as WMI, which has it’s own syntax. Admittedly, WMI predates Powershell by a LONG time.

    Ah well.
